Styling the Bump

Being pregnant is a beautiful journey that I am grateful for every day. I am constantly learning new things about myself, my body, and my mind. My body has already gone through so many changes and it will continue to change. And that’s okay! Women’s bodies are miraculous, intuitive, and incredibly strong vessels. Our bodies carry us through all chapters of our lives.

Since the bump has grown, I’ve gotten many questions and compliments about how I have styled myself throughout the pregnancy. I wanted to share my top tips that I have learned and that worked for me. I’m very particular about my style and what I add to my wardrobe. I didn’t want to buy a bunch of maternity clothing, or new clothing in general, and I certainly didn’t love many maternity clothes to begin with. I did get a few maternity pieces because I just couldn’t avoid it completely. It actually made a huge difference having that extra fabric over the belly; it helped a lot! For example, maternity leggings are a must. With that in mind, I had to come up with silhouettes and start shopping for pieces that would serve me now as my body changes by the week, as well as post-pregnancy. Here are some of my top styling tips for the bump!

Dresses are your best friend

Easy to put on and take off. Not to mention, it makes those many trips to the loo easy as well! Knit dresses tend to have a lot of stretch which is perfect for the growing belly. It’s also a great piece to layer as the weather gets colder. Pair a short knit dress with tall boots and a wool coat. Or layer a silk slip dress with a chunky knit oversized sweater and boots. These dresses will easily work with a belly and post-pregnancy.

These are my some of my favorite places to shop that are non-maternity but if I size up, it will fit my bump and me post-pregnancy no problem:

Aritzia - for silk slip dresses, oversized knit sweaters, sweatpants and sweatshirts (looks or the non high-waisted pants… or as low waist as possible)

H&M Maternity - I didn’t want to spend too much money on maternity clothing. I do plan on saving them for potential future pregnancies but I still wanted to keep it to a minimum. I found some great maternity trousers and leggings from here. I also picked up a set of nursing bras and they’re quite comfortable! (Also the baby clothes from H&M are very cute)

Blanqi - must have biker shorts. I’m going to link to their maternity clothing because they also have everything you could imagine for mamas.

Bumpsuit - great dresses, skirts, and shorts that stretch with you and are super minimalist and chic.

Hatch - my favorite legging for the whole pregnancy has been this one. So soft, stretchy, and doesn’t itch the belly. They also have a lot of other great products to check out for pregnancy and after!

Knit Sets

I love a knit set in general. It makes getting dressed so easy and effortless. Paired with a structured wool coat, white sneakers, and a bag and you’ll look so chic while also feeling comfortable. Comfort is absolutely key! I sized up one or two sizes to accommodate the bump. I’m sure post-pregnancy I won’t mind the oversized look either. I’ve selected some favorites below:
